The internet has made finding freelance work quite easy today. Most freelance marketplace sites work similar:

Depending on the opening, many positions can be highly competitive and those freelancers with the best “rate” are often the ones hired. If you are new to the site you are applying on – start small. You may have to take on a few low paying assignments to build up your feedback. The more positive feedback and jobs you have successfully completed the more marketable you will be.
Do not be discouraged if you are not selected for openings you have applied to. Remember there is a lot of competition out there so continue to apply!
