(Yes, I really did go from living in cardboard box to the Trump Tower in less than a week with Workathomeconns.com !) It is often obvious many of these stories are simply not true. They are just another part of the overall marketing plan.

There are also more subtle ways that the consumers mind is swayed. There are any number of ‘review” sites on the Internet that claim to give honest opinions of a certain home business opportunity but, many of these sites are again just a front for a certain company’s product (the one that gets the glowing review.)

So with all this bad information how can you really tell the real money making opportunities from the hype?

First of all, if it seems too good to be true it usually is. This advice you probably have heard a hundred times but, it is a valid statement. Foreign kings and nobles do not need you to help them and even if they did, they would not contact you by means of a poorly spelled email.

Check any home business opportunity you are considering out with the Better Business Bureau. They are the best source to know when a company is not quite playing fair.

Speak to someone about the business opportunity you are considering. If there is no real human support to contact it is probably not worth considering the business as a viable income producer.

Lastly, there are some websites that actually really do access all kinds of home business opportunities without bias. One of the better ones can be found at http://www.npros.com/, and of course here at My Work at Home Resources we are always on the lookout for both good and bad opportunities for home workers, and are always happy to share the knowledge.

We all know there are work at home scams out there that will rob people of their hard earned cash and steal their precious time; but did you know that some of the “work at home” schemes may even rob you of your liberty?

The ads for these scams are often incredibly seductive, promising individuals that they can earn hundreds of dollars every week just by processing checks, or stuffing envelopes. How do you spot the ones that will actually get you into trouble with the law and what can you do if you are a victim?

According to the FBI one of the most common illegal scams involves becoming a “US based” agent for an overseas firm. They send items to the “mark” to reship from their address, or checks to cash through their bank in return for a small portion of the total amount. The problem is that many times the goods are stolen or the checks are counterfeit, both of which could land you in the jail, not the “people” you are working for.

Before you undertake to work at home for anyone make sure that they have genuine contact information you can verify and that you know who they really are. There are criminals out there who are actively seeking innocent hard working people, looking for a way to make extra cash in hard times, to use as a cover for their illegal activities. By operating in the virtual world they profit but, are almost impossible for the police to track later and the unwitting home worker may pay for a crime they never knew they were committing.

Work from home scams have increased sharply in recent times as more and more people have been opting to look for opportunities online to be able work at home. Working from home is a dream come true for most people, but that same dream can quickly turn into a nightmare if you are not careful. With the internet, you can now start building your dream today, but first you have to know what to watch out for to avoid work from home scams.

There are a lot of business opportunities available for qualified professionals working from home. It is ideal because not only do you free yourself from a boss hovering around you and breathing down on your neck, you also get to spend more quality time with the people you love the most with a more flexible schedule. However with these opportunities come opportunists and scams ranging from data entry, online business opportunities, network marketing, paid surveys schemes, and many more.

The best way to avoid becoming the next victim of a work from home scam is by doing your research. Never take an opportunity at face value. When an opportunity comes up, check the organization’s background, see what people have to say about them, and look at their policy. Use search engines, forums, independent sources, social networking sites, and if possible, even word of mouth, any and all means to be on the safe side and to ensure they are genuine.

Also check the quality of information and how the work at home opportunity is presented, as it will speak a lot about the owners. The information has to be very understandable; there should be no technical jargons but it should still be detailed enough with the exact steps on how you will be making money from home and not just list the benefits. The information has to be reasonable and realistic and from that alone you will know if they mean business.
