Virtual Assistant Business– Is it Right for You?
The Virtual Assistant industry which is continually growing can require very little in the way of start-up costs. VA businesses can be offered as both an individual service or company with a team of VA’s. As with any business there is a quite a bit of work involved and no guarantees for an overnight success. Successful businesses require more than a speedy internet connection and Microsoft Office.
Start Small – Many virtual assistants begin their careers on freelance sites like Odesk and Guru. Taking on small projects here is a great way to get your feet wet and a quick way to build a good reputation.
It’s Tax Time Again!
Elance or oDesk?
Elance.com and oDesk.com both provide freelancers a great opportunity to showcase their skills and find work. The sites work as a marketplace for freelance work – allowing “buyers” to submit job openings and “providers” to bid (apply). Buyers can also find providers to fill their needs by searching their profiles to find the best match. Each site has no shortage of openings posted but, there are a few differences between each.
Telecommute Job Boards Save Time
Working from home is a luxury most of us want but, not many can find. There certainly is no shortage of “working from home” opportunities but, not many “real jobs”. Searching for legitimate companies with legitimate openings can be like trying to find a needle in the haystack. You can easily waste hours a day surfing the web which is where a telecommute job board might be of benefit.
Bid Successfully on Freelance Job Sites
For many freelancers in order to obtain jobs on some of the larger freelancing sites you must submit a bid. Some prospective clients are fairly specific in their ads about the rates that they are willing to pay, while others offer little information. Take your time on each bid and do not rush through the proposal.
To begin, try to research the client if possible. See if they have posted other jobs on the site before. If so, how much they have paid and what kind of feedback have they received from the providers? If it appears they generally choose providers who bid very low, you may want to reconsider your decision to submit a bid at all.
